Somewhere in Time Antiquities was launched in 2007 by Sean Ryland’s parents after they retired. Ryland joined them in business and relocated from Kansas City to Baxter Springs, KS in 2016.
Q: Describe your business and how it's grown since participating in Destination BootCamp.
Somewhere in Time Antiquities is the only Flea Market Antique Store on Route 66 with over 60 craft root beers! We also carry over 40 flavors of craft soda and 25 flavors of salt water taffy. We have something for everyone, from traditional antique styling to the more trendy shabby chic. As far as how much my business has grown since BootCamp, it's hard to tell since I just attended this past September.
Q: What were your key takeaways from participating?
There are so many good things about the class. It's hard to really narrow it down. But the most important: you have to be different than the other business. Create ultra-services that set you apart from your competition and trade-mark them. It'll make your business more valuable. And don't be afraid to change.
Q: What are your plans to grow your business in the future?
I'm working on some ultra-services for my business. I need to create a website and get my business on Instagram and Twitter. I'm also in the beginning stages of creating a city wide/regional annual swap meet. It's easy to get carried away with ideas so writing them down and using John Schallert's trademarked worksheets are going to help.
