Cassie Strickler competed in the 2018-2019 YEC Series in Republic County and placed second. Through K-State's executive summary open review, she earned a wild card spot to compete at the Kansas Entrepreneurship Challenge. In April 2019, she won first place in the Open Division of the KEC State Championship. She has since expanded her product line. Below she talks about how this program has influenced her as an entrepreneur.
Q: Describe your business and how it's grown since participating in the YEC Series.
A: "I am 17 years old and I own The Bomb Creations, a new beauty & self-care brand. I originally started out making lip balm, which is why it was originally called 'The Bomb Lip Balm.' However, thanks to the YEC and KEC competitions, the prize money has allowed me to expand into new products such as lip scrubs and body scrubs and to also buy my ingredients in bulk and fill large orders."
Q: What were your key takeaways from participating?
A: "Participating in YEC and KEC has opened my eyes to all of the details that go into running a business. There were so many specifics that I hadn’t even thought about, and now I am so glad I did. I am so thankful for the opportunity to meet so many amazing people with similar passions and make all sorts of business connections. All-around, I am extremely grateful for both competition experiences."
Q: What are your plans to grow your business in the future?
A: "My mission with The Bomb Creations is to provide people all over the world with high-quality, all-natural, and affordable products. This may sound cliche, but I truly do want to make a difference in people’s lives. I see The Bomb Creations as an opportunity to make that change happen. I plan to start by donating 12% of all profits to various non-profits such as Compassion International. I also plan to expand into all types of beauty and self-care products all the way from cosmetics and skincare to scented candles. I am filled with new ideas and excitement for the future of The Bomb Creations!"
